all about colour
“ Because we live in such a
colour-filled, busy world, coming home
to a calm, neutral space feels
like a breath of fresh air.” KenyKeuer
Neutral Zone
Saturated neutrals are
a happy, middle ground
between quiet palettes
and full-on colour, San
Francisco, US, designer
Kelly Keiser says.
1
“If you’re looking at
neutrals on paper,
go one step more
colourful from what
you’re thinking to
ease you out of the
‘safe’ neutrals.” (Just
keep in mind that
most colours look
darker on walls.)
2
“Anything you find
in a wine glass
works well with
neutrals,” from
champagne to
rosé to merlot.
3
Rethink beige.
Far from being
one-note, it runs
the gamut from
greyish mushroom
to greenish khaki to
rich café au lait. “If
you’re comfortable
in the beige area,
use variations like
these to change
things up.”
4
“Changing the
sheen—such as
using a high-gloss
paint on walls or the
ceiling—is a clever
way to punch up a
neutral palette.
It’s unexpected.” ■
